In 2006 a group of trustees associated with KingsWay Christian School formed the New Zealand Christian Proprietors Trust with a national proprietorship vision. The original trustees Vaughan Darby, John Bolan, Warwick Rope, Jim Grayson, Clinton Sandford and Quentin Currall consulted with proprietor representatives from Christchurch Christian Schools Network and Bethlehem College to consider opportunities for growing the network of non-denominational state integrated Christian schools as well as raising the bar on Special Character delivery.
At an NZCPT retreat in July 2008 the vision, mission and initial strategic plan were put in place. Mark Larson became chairperson and agencies were established in the north of the North Island (Vaughan Darby), the balance of the North Island (Graham Preston) and the South Island (Andy van Ameyde).
The NZCPT successfully integrated Kingsgate Christian School Pukekohe in 2007. This is a Year 0-8 school of approximately 40 pupils. Theresa Thomson is the principal. The Franklin Christian Education Trust owns the property which the NZCPT leases.
At the beginning of 2010 the NZCPT became the proprietor of KingsWay Christian School Orewa (Year 0-13, 1,000 pupils, Principal Francine Bennett). The KingsWay Trust owns the property.
During Term 2 2010 the NZCPT successfully integrated KingsView School (formerly Southern Lakes Christian School) in Queenstown and Tau Te Arohanoa Akoranga as the Hellensville satellite school of KingsWay School.
